Waymo to Test their Autonomous Driving Cabs

California authorities recently permitted autonomous driving company Waymo to transport people in its robotic, autonomous driving cabs. As per TechCrunch, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) gave a thumbs up to Waymo that lets them take join in the state's Autonomous Vehicle Passenger Service pilot. Meaning, Waymo staff will be allowed to call a self-driving car and take people on rides within the company's South Bay area. Of course, with a few limitations. No charge for these rides. Also, each car should have a safety driver behind the wheel. CPUC will also let Waymo to outsource its safety driver operations to a 3rd party, as the self-driving car company believes that controlling and scaling a “meaningful” pilot needs a huge group of drivers who are more engaged. These drivers will also undergo Waymo's own driver training course.
