Uber Testing Its Self-Driving Cars in Washington Roads

Uber will be putting their autonomous driving cars to the test (with human drivers in charge) to gather data for future deployment of full-fledged self-driving cars. The ride-hailing company is also gathering the same information in San Francisco, Dallas and Toronto to support the development of self-driving vehicles. The ultimate plan is for computers to control the cars in the long run. They're already running self-driving vehicles in autonomous mode in Pittsburgh (still with drivers for safety) but only during the day. Uber has been extra careful about test driving procedures since one of their self-driving cars killed a pedestrian in Tempe, AZ last March 2018. That was the 1^st death related to a self-driving vehicle. Because of that fatal crash, Uber halted all testing of autonomous driving cars and restarted in December 2018 in Pittsburgh with amended software and important new rules and precautions.
