Toyota to Slash Production Expenses to Allocate for R&D

Competition in the electric and self-driving tech is cutthroat. However, the cost of those technologies is no joke. That’s why Toyota is looking at cutting production expenses to somehow resolve the potential financial damage. In fact, reports say that the Japanese automaker has saved $875 million for about 6 months—all thanks to new production procedures. This is equivalent to $3,300 worth of savings per minute. Toyota then tossed those stash of $$$ towards research and development, around $9.3 billion for 2017. Luckily for Toyota, the Japanese yen is rather weak currently, which lets them earn more on vehicles sold in foreign markets.
