This VW Executive Will Stay Behind Bars
Despite pleading not guilty, Volkswagen exec Oliver Schmidt is going to stay locked up in jail. Schmidt is facing 11 counts of crime associated with VW’s almost 10-years long diesel emission scandal. If proven guilty, he could be sentenced to 169 years in prison, according to prosecutors. He was arrested in January at the Miami International Airport on his way home to Germany after a family trip. Schmidt was one of seven present and past VW execs charged thus far in the ongoing case.
