Survey Says Riders in Hired Cars Usually Don’t Bother Using Seat Belts

You’d think by this time, people are instinctively buckling up every time they get in the vehicle. Looks like that’s not the case entirely. Unfortunately, many are not disciplined enough to use seat belts and still need to be reminded. As per Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s survey, 91% of people claim they always buckle up in the front seat, but just 72% do not while riding in the back seat. Even more disturbing findings is that those folks who admit most of their trips as back passengers happen in hired cars were more likely not to regularly buckle up. The usual reason why they forego the rear seat belt is the misconception that it’s unnecessary.
