Subaru Confessed to Manipulating Fuel Economy & Emissions Records in Japan
Volkswagen may have been the most popular carmaker, not in a good way, unfortunately, for cheating emissions regulations. However, it’s not the only trickster so to speak. FCA has been suspected of something related. Some other accused automakers include BMW, Daimler and Mitsubishi. Looks like, you can include Subaru to the list of car companies involved in an emissions controversy but in a smaller measure. The Japanese automaker recently confessed to manipulating fuel economy and emissions stats for roughly 900 vehicles at 2 Japanese factories. An in-house investigation showed that some quantities and details were wrongly changed, and values conflicting from those that should have been documented as actual measurement results were recorded in monthly reports. The accused car manufacturer thinks the manipulation may have begun around 2002 but is quite unsure, as they only have data that goes back to 2012.
