New Tesla Factory in Shanghai, China Coming Soon

Last year, Tesla was negotiating with Shanghai authorities about building a factory there. Usually, car manufacturers need to partner with a Chinese firm to make and market vehicles in China. However, Tesla was apparently working on a deal that would let them bypass that process. After nearly 9 months, the Tesla Shanghai plant is now official. Reuters says Elon Musk has finalized a deal with the Chinese government to put up would-be a 1st Tesla factory outside the US. As soon as construction starts, it shall take roughly 2 years before the first car rolls off its assembly line. And about 2 or 3 years afterwards, this Shanghai plant could be making as many as 500K cars annually. This statement took place just days after China addressed Trump’s newly implemented tariffs on car imports.
