Hyundai to Begin Self-Driving Ride-Hailing Service By November in California
Hyundai will provide autonomous ride sharing in CA beginning November to learn consumer activity in a self-driving surroundings. The South Korean automaker will collaborate with Pony.ai and mobility service company, Via. They'll run a group of at least 10 Kona electric SUVs to offer BotRide, an autonomous ride-sharing service in Irvine, CA. Pony.ai, which already has a joint-venture with Toyota, will create autonomous driving systems with Hyundai. Via, on the other hand, will come up with mobile apps for the service. Though the cars will have autonomous driving functions, there will be 2 safety operators onboard to man them, should there be an emergency. The service will commence on November 4 to hundreds of Irvine residents, including college students.
