Honda to Shut Down UK Plant That Manufactures Civic Type R
Honda recently said it will be shutting down its Swindon, UK factory in 2021 as soon as production finishes on the current Civic. Every hatchback in America, including the Type R, is manufactured at the said Swindon plant. The Japanese carmaker made this move because they're trying to modify their EV plans and tactics. Looks like they'd be focusing activity in areas where they anticipate to yield more production volumes. According to Honda top exec Takahiro Hachigo, the decision wasn't connected to Brexit. Remember Honda has huge goals for electric cars. They made an EV platform first witnessed on the Urban EV concept back in 2017. Worldwide, about 2/3 of the vehicles Honda sells shall have some type of electrified tech come 2030. Their Swindon plant manufactures 150,000 vehicles annually and has roughly 3,500 employees.
