GM Will Have to Lay Off More Employees

In a recent report published in the Detroit Free Press, economists and analysts believe that General Motors will likely need to cut some jobs, apart from stopping production at their 5 factories in the US and Canada. GM will stop making their 6 low demand sedans: the Chevrolet Cruze, Impala and Volt plug-in hybrid; Cadillac XTS and CT6; and the Buick LaCrosse. This restructure could mean roughly 14,000 job cuts. However, this will bring forth $6 billion come the end of 2020, which GM plans to spend on innovation. Also, the American carmaker said they will have to fill 2,700 job vacancies at other US factories, offering possible opportunities for displaced blue-collar staff.
