France to Prohibit Selling Diesel and Gasoline-Powered Cars
According to Ecology Minister Nicolas Hulot, France is looking at quitting sale of diesel and gasoline vehicles come 2040—with an ultimate goal of becoming carbon neutral a decade later. President Emmanuel Macron aims to execute this objective to beat climate change, especially after US President Donald Trump said he’d withdraw the landmark deal agreed in Paris in 2015. While banning fossil fuel-powered cars seems like a tall order, Hulot believes it’s not far-fetched and French automakers would be up for the challenge. He cites Geely’s Volvo as an example that apparently plans to only make EV or hybrid new models starting 2019; and India, intends to go all-EV by 2030.
