Elon Musk Looking at Building Cargo Vans with Daimler
Elon Musk has recently hinted that he might consider collaborating with Daimler again on building an electrified Mercedes-Benz Sprinter cargo van. But then Mercedes is already working on introducing eSprinter in 2019, which is a battery-electric option of its commercial cargo van. However, on Twitter, Elon said that Tesla has a lot on its plate and it could source “glider” options of the eSprinter from Mercedes-Benz minus the powertrain, battery and computer system to have a Tesla-fied van on the road faster. Like what Elon's most tweets are, it's a bit vague if he's serious about it. Remember that Tesla and Daimler have dealt with each other in the past. In 2009, Daimler shelled out $50M to get a 10% stake in Tesla, something Elon acknowledged that this saved his EV company.
