Cybersecurity Dangers Might Hinder Innovation

Car manufacturers agree that working together is important to stop hackers. Security is vital to technology deployment, according to a Toyota director. The challenge is to create a culture of solid risk management that looks for loopholes and dangers. Public trust is crucial to deploy technologies like that of autonomous driving, making joint ventures between government, manufacturers and suppliers important in strengthening cybersecurity in the car industry. No wonder General Motors is spending a lot to secure all of the company's products from hackers—especially now that they're trying to hit a goal of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion. GM has an in-house “Red Team” to fight the defenses integrated into new vehicles and systems. They also invited about 500 outside hackers to test GM's security. So far, these outsiders have discovered roughly 700 various potential threats.
