Bosch Coming Up with Range-Boosting Microchips for EVs
In 2020, Bosch will start manufacturing in Germany a next generation of energy-efficient microchips particularly for electric cars. As per Bosch execs, the initial samples shall be brought to prospective clients and then eventually, may find their way into series production EVs about 3 years later. The chips will be utilizing silicone carbide, which is a different semiconducting material meant to sustain the higher temperatures and voltages found in power electronics—the system that routes electricity to and from the battery and the drivetrain. Robert Bosch didn't comment about clients for the said microchips. But they're a major supplier to BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, which are all trying to grow their lineups to compete with Tesla.
