Apple Patents a System for Driverless Cars
This recently published patent application from Apple shows what seems like a self-driving navigation system that’s also partly virtual reality based. The application named “Autonomous Navigation System” was first filed in December 2015 with the US Patent and Trademark Office. It extensively describes a driverless navigation system that comes equipped with sensors giving information to a “virtual characterization” of driving routes regularly traveled by drivers as a means to make self-driving cars more efficient and not require to frequently re-create detailed maps. This system can also apparently adjust to changes in a route free of preexisting route characterizations, maps, and data from a remote service/system etc.—thus, decreasing the time needed to initiate autonomous navigation of the changed route.
